Nominator's project description
| Prof. Goldberg conducted his undergraduate studies in Geology in the early 1960s at Brooklyn College and at the University of Colorado. In the 1960s and early 1970s Goldberg conducted his doctoral research at the University of Michigan. In his doctoral research and thereafter, Prof. Goldberg made pioneering contributions in the field of geoarchaeology. He developed new microscopic techniques for studying how sites form and for distinguishing anthropogenic processes from natural processes at archaeological sites. Prof. Goldberg's research has taken him to countless sites in the Old and New World and his publications include many classic studies in geo-archaeology. Before joining the faculty of Bosten University, Goldberg held academic appointments in Israel and in Texas. Although Prof. Goldberg has worked productively in many areas of the geological and archaeological sciences, today he is best known for his leading role in the study of geoarchaeology of caves. During Prof. Goldberg's stay in Tübingen, he has been personally responsible for introducing new techniques into German geoarchaeology and for analysing two of the most important Paleolithic cave sites in Germany, Geißenklösterle and Hohle Fels. |
